Affirmation of the Week
"The dreams that once inspired me are mine to step into now. I have time and I won’t let it slip away."

Malcolm-Jamal Warner
💌 Fab at Fifty Plus: Your Midlife Love Letter
Issue No. 8 – Thursday, July 31, 2025
Hey Fab Fam,
The sudden and unexpected death of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner hurts.
Malcolm-Jamal wasn’t just a celebrity to many of us; he was family.
For those of us who came of age in the 1980s and 1990s—especially those of us who are Black—The Cosby Show was more than a sitcom. It was a blueprint. A vision of a life many of us didn’t know was possible.
Most of us didn’t grow up with wealth or privilege, and seeing a Black, educated, loving, successful family on TV was rare. The show showed us who we could be and what we could build. It wasn’t just entertaining, it was aspirational.
They weren’t just characters. They were teachers. Clair and Cliff showed us how to parent before we even dreamt of being parents. Theo, Sandra, Rudy, and Vanessa showed us how to dream, grow, and love. So this loss—it hits different. Because it’s not just about Malcolm, it’s about what’s slipping through our fingers, it’s about this stage of life where the group chats carry more grief than gossip. Where friends don’t always make it to retirement. And where we’re reminded, again and again, that we’re not invincible.
Loss like this presses on a nerve we rarely speak aloud: That somewhere along the way, we stopped chasing the dreams that once lit us up. The wide-eyed child who believed in something more because of what they saw on Thursday nights has gone quiet.
Maybe we got distracted. Perhaps we’ve been waiting—for more money, more confidence, fewer responsibilities, better timing. But time doesn’t wait. And it doesn’t ask for permission.
Here’s what I believe: Life isn’t short. It’s just unpredictable. We have more than enough time to be who we want to be, but only if we stop deferring joy.
Only if we stop waiting for proof that we’re worthy, ready, or allowed.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s passing is a painful reminder that there are no guarantees. So this week, I want you to ask yourself: What have I been putting off that my spirit is begging me to begin? Not someday. Not when you retire. Now!
Because we are still here. And while we’re still here, there is still time to become all that we were meant to be.
With love and light,
